TRIATHLON TRAINING COMES TO

NEW YORK HEALTH & RACQUET CLUB

New York, NY 2008 New York Health & Racquet Club and Jack Rabbit, NYCs premiere triathletes store, have partnered to launch a new comprehensive tri-athlete training program, one of the firsts for New York City gyms.

Triathlons have exploded in recent years, they are no longer for elite athletes pushing their bodys to extremes, said Doug Oldigies, Jack Rabbit Sports. This program is for anyone who has ever wished they could participate in a triathlon. We are committed to show them that they can. Organizations like The Leukemia Lymphoma Society have launched fundraising groups like Team in Training to expand the scope of their fundraising into new arenas. New York Health & Racquet Club is one of the few facilities in Manhattan that offers the training components for all aspects of a triathlon: swimming, running & cycling.

We have seen a significant increase in the number of members requesting this type of program, said Maryann Donner, Group Fitness Director. We have one of the few group fitness classes to address this, BRICK, that combines the cycling and running training these athletes go through. But with so many races exploding in the tri-state area, and nationally, the interest for members to push their fitness levels further has been a great impetus to launch this program.

Try a Tri will run for nine weeks starting Wednesday, April 23rd and culminates with participants having the option to participate in the Patanellas Flat as a Pancake sprint distance triathlon, Sunday, June 22nd, 2008.
The twice weekly workouts will meet at NYHRCs 50th St. location Wednesday from 6:30pm-7:30pm and Sunday from 9:30am-11:00am. Sunday mornings will focus on your existing swim and cycling skills. On Wednesdays class moves to Central Park where the focus will be on running. As the weather warms and, comfort and fitness levels grow, the class will add cycling to the outdoor workouts. No previous triathlon experience is needed! However, a minimum experience in running & cycling and the ability to swim three lengths of the pool, paired with a sincere desire to challenge your self are needed.

The goal is to take gym members out of their comfort zone from being inside the gym and introducing them to outdoor sports via running. As the class progresses, we will introduce them to cycling outdoors in the third or fourth of week. The program is appropriate for all levels, those trying this for the first time, and experienced athletes interested in low cost training with tri-athlete coaches. Participants will meet Sunday mornings at NYHRCs mid-town location 50th Street and Madison Avenue, and Wednesday evenings as well for out door running conditioning in the city and Central Park.
